SoundAppraisal zet zich in om geluidsomgevingen te verbeteren. Dit doen wij door enerzijds nieuwe beleidsconcepten en werkwijzen te ontwikkelen en anderzijds software te ontwikkelen aan de hand van de soundscape benadering. In beide staat niet de decibel, maar de beleving van geluid centraal. De state-of-the-art software kan worden ingezet om soundscapes inzichtelijk te maken en daarmee de kwaliteit van geluidsomgevingen beter te meten en te analyseren.

Geschiedenis
SoundAppraisal bestaat sinds 2014 en doet sinds die tijd projecten. Echter, de oorsprong van SoundAppraisal ligt in de voormalige Auditory Cognition Group binnen Artificial Intelligence aan de RUG. Die was in 2003 opgericht op basis van het promotieonderzoek van Andringa.
Rond 2008 hadden Tjeerd Andringa en Ronald van Elburg een lange termijn onderzoek- en technologievisie op geluidsanalyse, geluidsbeleving, en geluidsperceptie geformuleerd die ze langzamerhand uit gingen voeren. Eerst gebeurde dat in de marge van een aantal wetenschappelijke projecten. Het bleek echter niet gemakkelijk te zijn deze visie te realiseren binnen de mogelijkheden en beperkingen van de academische wereld en dus werd in 2014 besloten SoundAppraisal op te richten om via “echte-wereld” vraagstukken de technologie verder te ontwikkelen.
De In de afgelopen 9 jaren hebben we stap voor stap en enerzijds tergend langzaam en anderzijds zonder ernstige technische of conceptuele problemen tegen te komen een conceptueel relatief eenvoudig, maar technisch zeer geavanceerde en complexe geluidsverwerkingsmethodologie gebouwd. We hebben dat gedaan via een flink aantal projecten waarvan een (klein) deel hier beschreven zijn.
Publicaties
Omdat SoundAppraisal een basis heeft in universitair onderzoek en daar nog nog steeds actief aan bijdraagt heeft de informatie op deze website een stevige basis in de wetenschappelijke literatuur. De publicaties zijn doorgaans vrij toegankelijk.
